Samuel L. Jackson sure gets some great lines.

With the first draft of book 1 nearly finished, I'm looking ahead to the next step. Before the revision process starts, I need to put the manuscript away for a few weeks so as to have fresh eyes for the nitty gritty fine tuning.

In the meantime!

I've made the insane--er, gutsy decision to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, in order to get a start on book 2!

Hold the phone! Am I crazy? What am I thinking—am I even thinking? This decision seriously freaks me out, folks. It's taken me two years to finish the first draft of book 1. How the heck can I crank out another one in only 30 days?

And we all have a ton of junk going on in November: Christmas/holiday shopping (for those who buy into that materialistic insanity), family gatherings, parties, traveling, prepping the ol' homestead for winter, putting the garden to bed, moving & unpacking, etc., etc., etc. Take your pick. Come to think of it, November has got to be the busiest month of the entire year. And they want you to add more to do? Talk about scary!

So!

To prep for the challenge of this mad marathon, I've researched and gathered information from all over the place. In the process, I've discovered my new favorite blog:

Kristen Lamb is the author of the #1 best-selling books We Are Not Alone—The Writer’s Guide to Social Media and Are You There, Blog? It’s Me, Writer. I absolutely love this lady! Her wit and wisdom are so inspiring!

One article in particular inspired this post:

As she puts it, all roads lead to Star Trek. This November, I'm going to have to learn some mad racing skills (and make use of those school zones and Wal-Mart parking lots) to outrun my inner Spock. From here until Dec. 1, Captain Kirk: lead the way!

Write long and prosper, my friends!

(On a side note, I got to practice my mad GIMP skills with this one!)
