The enemy forces loomed closer, their massive elephants kicking up clouds of dust.
Marcus grasped his sword. “Steady...” he commanded his edgy men.
They were outnumbered. Naturally. But Marcus reminded himself he didn't have to win, only that he had to buy enough time for the Atlantean fleet to arrive. If they arrived, he thought.
Come what may, his legion would hold the line to the last man. Everything depended on it. Only then would he regain his father's trust, his honor. The people of Ker-Ys looked to them for hope—she looked to him to save her people. Above all else, he would not fail her.

A spear shot through the dust cloud—and hit Marcus.
The world around him began to fade. He couldn't move. All he could do was fall to his knees.
He collapsed into darkness...

Jennifer: (stops typing) Hey! Who threw that spear?
(Characters look around sheepishly)
Jennifer: He's not supposed to die! We discussed this, people.
Characters: Well, you know... We were minding our own business...fighting this epic final battle...and...
Jennifer: And what?
Finn: (Steps out of the crowd) Begging your pardon, Lady Jennifer, but you're the authoress. You can bring him back with your magic keyboard. (Grumbles to himself) Though you might want to consider leaving him where he is.
Jennifer: You know, Finn, I really can't decide which of you is cuter. I was up all night trying to figure it out.
Finn: Flattering as your words are, Milady, you know who my heart belongs to already. But you're more than welcome to Marcus.
Marcus: (Sits up and yanks out the spear) In your dreams, you two-legged eel! You should know by now it takes more than that to bring down a Roman! Am I right?
(Roman legions cheer him on)
Jennifer: Okay, everyone. Let's take this from the top. (Rubs her face) I really need to get out more...
