Jane Austen is my heroine!

The tremendous impact she has made on our ideas of love and romance is simply amazing! Let's face it, every woman loves Mr. Darcy (though Captain Wentworth is my personal favorite). After more than 200 years, her heroes still make us swoon—and all without sex scenes. Imagine that!

Captain Wentworth, penning what is probably one of the most romantic love letters ever!
Sadly, she only wrote six complete novels, and we can only read those so many times. But the art of writing a clean romance didn't die with Jane. It's alive and well today. And contrary to common belief, clean romances aren't limited to the YA or strictly Christian genres. Think these stories are boring? You just fell for another urban myth.
Jaclyn Hawkes, Indie author of several books, says it perfectly:

I write clean romance because I want to be proud of my writing. As a former teacher, I wouldn't want to write anything that could have a negative effect on my former students' lives. If I wrote trash, that's exactly what would happen.
Instead, I want to empower teenage girls and women of all ages by showing them that they can raise their standards. After all, how can the men around us become our knights in shining armor if we women don't give them reasons to do so? Behind every good man is an awesome woman! I don't know who first said that, but I can't think of a single man I admire today who wasn't inspired to become what he is on account of a woman.
Thank you, Jane!
